I am struggling to find the words to express my feelings today. My heart, my Georgie 2.0, RROW's SpokesRat, King George II passed away peacefully yesterday, September 4th, 2017.
He was my first Harley rat. Once I found out that such an animal existed I wanted one, to love him, and hug him and squeeze him and name him George! The first George I was offered unfortunately failed to thrive, and so a second was offered, and Georgie 2.0 became mine. I loved him at first sight, a tiny little ball of fluff that rode my shoulder on the car ride home from Ohio to South Carolina. It took a while for Georgie 2.0 and I to bond. I was closely bonded with another rat, Paparazzi, and when 'Razzi' passed away suddenly during a surgical procedure, Georgie 2.0 seemed to just know that I needed him to help get over the loss. He had always been a little reserved, but after Razzi's death, he just came to the front of the cage and climbed up my arm to my shoulder. This started to become our thing and he would just sit, and 'be' with me. We enjoyed time watching TV and taking naps together, he became my best bud.
Georgie 2.0 also became the patriarch of my Harley line at RROW, siring many offspring, and passing down his wonderful temperament. I put all of my baby holdback male rats in with Georgie and a couple of other older boys, as a kind of nursery school for weanlings. Georgie had the patience of a saint, teaching baby boys ratty manners, and that Mom's fingers meant scritches and treats. He LOVED head rubs the best. His last cagemates were two of his sons, two of his grandsons, his oldest friend and his oldest friend's son, a naked dwarf!
It would have been his second birthday yesterday. I found him curled up in his favorite spot, I thought he was asleep.
Rest well sweet boy, I love you, and I miss you. Thank you for two amazing years, you were the BEST rat. You have given me sweet memories and stunning offspring to carrying on your name - ROAR King George II
